Mbita Ferry Services partners with different clients to transport different commodities to various ports within the Kenyan waters of Lake Victoria. We dock at the mainland ports of Homabay, Kendubay, Asembo bay, Muhuru Bay, and Mbita.

We also offer transport service from the mainland to the islands e.g. Takawiri, Kibwogi, Mfangano, Ngodhe, Mageta, Ndeda, Remba, Ringiti, etc

Some of the commodities carried during hire include construction materials, petroleum products, construction and earth moving machinery, solar and lighting infrastructure, etc.

Our charges for hire vary depending on the size of the vessel, distance between Mbita Port and the destination and back, and the nature of cargo. We engage with our clients based on the rate per ton over a given distance. Table below is an example of hire to four islands based on the four parameters above:

During the hire, we provide the vessel, crew and fuel. The client is responsible for cargo handling onto and off the deck.

The islands continue to open up and urbanize increasingly due to such partnerships.
